a pour with ingots

Casting the Cube, 2010
Artworks Foundry, Berkeley, CA

All the hollow shells in the metal cage will be filled with molten bronze during this round of casting. More ingots will be added to the crucible for the next round of casting.

The foundry uses art grade ingots of Alloy C873, which is a silicon bronze known as Everdur.
It has excellent pouring characteristics and can be easily welded with oxyacetylene torches.
It is composed of approximately 95% copper, 4% silicon and 1% manganese.
Its pouring temperature is 1850 F - 2150 F.
